Identity & Verification Transparency

Last updated: February 2026

⚠️ Important Disclaimer

Raia is not a government project, government application, or government-affiliated platform. Raia is a private platform developed, owned, and operated by HERNATTER LIMITED, a diversified conglomerate based in Tanzania. Raia is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or sponsored by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Current Status

Raia collects identity information but does NOT authenticate nationally. NIN is self-declared and not verified against any government database.

Our Commitment

We are transparent about what we do and don't do with your identity information. This page explains everything clearly.

1. What NIN Is Used For

When you create a Raia account, you are asked to provide your National Identification Number (NIN). Here is exactly how it is used:

  • Account Uniqueness: NIN helps ensure that each user has a single, authentic account on the Platform.
  • Internal Consistency: NIN is used as an internal reference identifier for your Raia profile.
  • Fraud Prevention: It helps us detect and prevent duplicate or fraudulent accounts.

2. What NIN Is NOT Used For

Your NIN is NOT used for any of the following:

  • ❌ Accessing or querying any government identity database
  • ❌ Performing NIDA verification or authentication
  • ❌ Sharing with government agencies (unless legally required)
  • ❌ Creating any form of government-recognized identity
  • ❌ Accessing biometric data or national registry records
  • ❌ Submitting applications to any government department on your behalf

3. Current Non-Integration with NIDA

As of the date of this document, Raia has no connection, integration, or partnership with the National Identification Authority (NIDA) or any other government identity verification system. Specifically:

  • Raia does not have access to NIDA's API or any government identity database.
  • Raia does not validate, verify, or authenticate the NIN you provide.
  • The NIN you enter is treated as self-declared information, similar to your name or phone number.
  • A "Raia Verified Profile" refers only to the completion of your Raia platform profile. It does not imply government verification of any kind.

4. Future Possibility of Official Verification

Raia may in the future seek authorization to integrate with official identity verification services. If such authorization is obtained:

  • Verification will be optional. Users will never be forced to undergo government identity verification.
  • Users must give explicit consent. No verification will happen without your clear permission.
  • Minimal data only. Raia will only request the minimum necessary fields (such as name, gender, and status).
  • Prior notification. All users will be notified before any integration goes live, and our privacy policy will be updated accordingly.

If approved by relevant authorities, Raia may introduce optional identity verification through official channels in the future. This approach aligns with expectations typically guided by bodies such as the e-Government Authority of Tanzania.

5. How Your Data Is Protected

  • NIN and all personal data are encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard encryption (TLS/SSL).
  • Access to identity data is restricted through role-based access controls.
  • No biometric or sensitive national registry data is collected or stored.
  • Only essential fields required for platform functionality are collected (data minimization).

6. Raia Verified Profile vs. Government Verification

Understanding the difference

✅ Raia Verified Profile

Means you have completed your profile information on the Raia platform. This is a platform-level designation only.

❌ Government Verification

Would mean your identity has been authenticated against a national database like NIDA. Raia does NOT perform this.

7. Your Rights

Regarding your identity information on Raia, you have the right to:

  • Know exactly how your NIN and identity data is used (as described on this page).
  • Request access to the identity information stored about you.
  • Request correction of any inaccurate identity information.
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated identity data.
  • Withdraw consent for any future identity verification features.
